Mercury Marine honors veteran's during special ceremony

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Nov. 11, 2015) – In what has become an annual event, Mercury Marine, the global leader in marine propulsion, honored both past and present military veterans with a celebration today at the company’s global headquarters in Fond du Lac.

The day started with a message of thanks at 11:11am and was followed by a presentation, honoring Mercury Marine veterans past and present, featuring Mercury Marine president John Pfeifer, Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs Secretary John Scocos and Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson just to name a few.

“We will continue to recognize all military veterans at Mercury Marine and in our communities, as well as those that support them,” said Mercury Marine president John Pfeifer. "Today is about celebrating the work and freedom that our veterans have provided for us."

Mercury Marine has seen continued growth in veteran’s employment at its global headquarters and continues to seek out employees that are reliable and dedicated – two of the many core values that veteran’s possess. Through its Mercury Marine Military Veteran Employee Network (M3VN), the company unites, promotes, honors, attracts, engages and promotes the hiring of veterans.

In addition to today’s program, Mercury unveiled a traveling Veteran’s award showcase where company awards related to veteran's will be on display. Mercury has won awards such as Military Friendly Employer by Victory Media and GI Jobs and most recently, Mercury earned the ESGR Pro Patria award given annually to a company that has demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees.

Mercury Marine also recently won the Above and Beyond Award, which according to the ESGR website is given to companies who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits.

"Veterans continue to provide us leadership and today is our chance to pay them back," Pfeifer said. "They pave the way for us to be a global company."
