BRISTOL, Wis. (August 15, 2007) – Brunswick Corporation's (NYSE: BC) line of pool tables for 2007 is its largest collection in nearly 20 years. It reflects a resurging interest in the game and Brunswick's ability to leverage its unequalled experience to bring stylish, top quality tables to within the price range of virtually anyone who wants to rack ‘em up.
The new line pays special attention to the popularity of pool among teens, young adults and families. They comprise the largest concentrations of the 7.5 million Americans who play pool at least 25 times a year, according to the latest survey by American Sports Study, Inc. Players 12 to 17 years of age account for 19 percent of the pool playing population, up from 14 percent in the 2006 survey. Young adults 18 to 24 account for 20 percent. Players 25 to 34 make up 15 percent and the 35 to 44-year-olds 16 percent.
“While the industry has seen a slight decline in the overall sales of pool tables, young families continue investing in their homes to create fun environments where they can spend quality time together, and the number one choice for unplugged fun is a billiards table,” said E.J. Loferski, director of marketing for Brunswick Billiards. “Today's tables and game room suites provide a stylish focal point to what's becoming the most popular room in the house. What's more, people are discovering or rediscovering that one of the greatest things about pool is how it cultivates strong relationships among people of all ages.”
High Quality and Low Price Points
The Brunswick CONTENDER® Series, first introduced in 2004, was designed with the family segment in mind. And the line's four new models for 2007 reflect how serious Brunswick is about competing to win in this category. The Allenton is offered in traditional cherry or chestnut finishes. The Black Wolf™, a dramatic contemporary design, features hardwood rails; a laminated baseframe, apron and legs; and satin nickel corner castings. The Bayfield™ model offers wide, solid wood rails and a veneered base frame and tapered post-style legs all the way up to the slate, creating a highly streamlined stance. It's available in a matte black or chestnut finish.
The Danbury™, the top of the line CONTENDER Series model, features a double-arched, veneered baseframe and aprons. Leg options include ball and claw, Queen Anne or ram's head style. The Danbury's intricate designs on the baseframe and Camphor burl inlays are marks of distinction among tables in this price range. It's available in a traditional cherry and chestnut finish.
“The continued popularity of pool among younger demographics is enabling us to make greater investments in this category,” said Kelly Tebon, brand manager for Brunswick Billiards. “It provides us with a great opportunity to leverage our deep well of design expertise and resources to introduce features that our competitors simply can't match.”
CONTENDER Series tables are available for purchase as part of a complete game room suite, including poker tables, bar sets, pub tables, wall racks and more. The suites make it easy for the homeowner to create a fully furnished entertainment room featuring stylish and complementary designs.
